1 John 5:11-13
11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
See how John quickly summarizes our testimony to the world.
"God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life."
This is our message to the world.
God gives us eternal life, through Jesus, His Son.
Only through Jesus.
This was written to us by God so we would KNOW that we have eternal life.
KNOW that we have eternal life.
When we know something, it is fact, it is settled in our minds and our hearts.
Also, that we will "continue to believe in the name of the Son of God."
To believe in that Name.
The Name above all names.
Because we are to pray in Jesus' name.
At the name of Jesus every knee will bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.
There is no other name by which we can be saved.
Remember the disciples told Jesus that even the demons were subject to His name.
Romans tells us that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.
No matter how sinful we have been we are washed, sanctified and justified in the name of the Lord and by the Holy spirit.
All because God has put power into His Son and the name of His Son, Jesus.
We invoke the name of Jesus because God sees us through His perfect Son.
It reminds us that we are in Christ, and it is through Christ that we are able to be called God's children and have eternal life.
John 14:12-14
12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
When we ask in Jesus' name, we are forgiven.
We are restored and strengthened.
We are blessed by the Father.
