1 Peter 1:3-5
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Peter is reminding us in this letter that we have been "begotten" again.
Meaning we have been born again, we have the new birth through the resurrection of Jesus.
When we are baptized, we are dying to our sins and being raised to new life.
Being born again.
We are born into a new life filled with hope.
And this is not flimsy "maybe" hope.
No, it is a firm, confident, joyful expectation of this new in life in Christ.
We know that we are saved through Jesus.
Then as a child of God, he talks about what we are born into.
What is our inheritance that we can expect.
What do we possess as a child of our Heavenly Father?
He says it is incorruptible, undefiled and does not fade away.
Our inheritance does not decay or lessen over time.
It is pure and clean and holy good.
And it does not end.
This inheritance is not of this world, which is corrupted.
It is of God, the One Who is pure and holy and always good and eternal.
It is reserved in heaven.
This means it is tended to and kept for us in this perfect state.
Until we receive it in heaven.
Then notice verse 5.
We are those "who are kept by the power of God".
We are protected and guarded by God until we receive that final, eternal salvation that is coming.
Even if we temporarily stumble, the Lord guards us.
So that, when Christ returns, we will have that complete salvation.
This is our expectation.
What we confidently await and anticipate when the Lord returns.
