3 John 1:4
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
John, as an Apostle, follower of Jesus, speaks of his greatest joy.
That joy is from hearing "his children" walk in the truth of God's word.
Now these children are spiritual children, people John proclaimed the gospel to.
Do we share this joy, when we see someone come to Christ?
Are we happy for them?
We should be.
When someone comes to the Lord and is baptized into the body of Christ, that means they are on the path to heaven.
They are following Jesus, Who can lead them to the best things in life.
Then we should also be joyful as they follow Jesus faithfully.
When we see them continue to follow the Lord and grow spiritually.
It should be like watching your child grow strong and true.
We should be encouraging and helpful.
Imagine the joy this must bring to God, when we walk in His word.
When we follow Him and stay faithful to Him.
To get the idea, look at the parable of the prodigal son.
The father in that parable represents God.
He is so happy when his child returns home.
He throws a great celebration to receive his child back to him.
We should not be like the older brother, who is jealous and offended.
God does not love us less because more are added to the family.
The Lord was just as happy and joyous when we were brought into His family.
Remember that Jesus said this.
Luke 15:7
I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
We should join in this joy as we gain brothers and sisters in Christ.
Rejoice over each new spiritual rebirth.
Then continue with joy as we see our fellow Christians grow and walk in truth.
